Overview of Submarines:
During the Renaissance new innovations were spreading throughout the world as the norms were challenged and people began to think outside of the limits to create something new. Among these creations was Cornelis Drebbel's first ever submarine that was developed by the British navy and used to show off the king's power and prestige . Later the submarine was developed as a military weapon to attack enemy ships first as a type of ram and after some time through the use of torpedoes. A modern need that this invention is now able to address is as an aid to drug-smugglers. Though not the most noble of uses, the War on Drugs has made security and drug smuggling more and more difficult for the criminals involved, forcing them to find more innovate means of transporting other wise illegal goods. This illegal use of the submarine helps depict its potential for more beneficial causes as a cargo vessel for legal trade and good that would be less vulnerable to attack. The necessity of a secure method of transportation across large bodies of water is becoming more and more prevalent with the increase in pirates and overall instability in African and Middle Eastern countries, such as Somalia. By using preexisting submarines as cargo ships rather than scrape metal, sea trade can become a more secure and viable option for trade.
